Description
V for Vostilidi 2024 from Sarris Winery is a distinctive dry white/orange wine that showcases the rare Greek variety Vostilidi in an expressive, natural style. It comes from selected vineyards in Lixouri, Kefalonia, where the grapes are fermented with wild, indigenous yeasts and aged for about 9–11 months in oak barrels before bottling, giving the wine a deep golden-yellow color with orange highlights that reflects its oxidative, skin-contact winemaking approach, along with a sense of depth. On the nose, it shows pronounced aromas of ripe citrus (pear, green apple, lime, lemon zest) alongside notes of honey, dried chrysanthemum, and pronounced minerality. On the palate it’s rich, with balanced acidity and subtle tannins, while mineral and smoky notes add a multidimensional character and a long finish that can comfortably stand up to dishes with bolder flavor and texture.
V for Vostilidi pairs beautifully with grilled fish or seafood with lemon, charcoal-grilled fish, shellfish, and also more textured dishes like mushroom risotto — generally, choices where its vibrant acidity and citrus notes balance rich elements in the food. Its structure can even handle more “challenging” flavors that often prove difficult for simpler white wines.
