Description
Sklava is a unique, ancient Greek grape variety, one of the oldest in the Greek vineyard. It was planted alongside Agiorgitiko in Nemea, and was rescued and revived by agronomist and viticulturist Ilias Zacharias. Today it’s grown, vinified, and bottled exclusively by Zacharias Winery. The first single-varietal Sklava bottling was released in 2014.
It has a bright, medium lemon-green color with grey highlights. On the nose, citrus, fresh stone fruit, and herbal notes. On the palate, medium acidity, medium body, with flavors of pear, green apple, and lemon, alongside herbal hints of tea leaves and chamomile. Long aftertaste.
Aging potential: 3–4 years, with interesting development in bottle.
Pairs with: salads, pasta, seafood, cold appetizers, white cheeses, handmade herb pies, and green vegetables and greens.
