Description
“Tsigelo” is the traditional name for authentic Mavrodafni, and here we find it in its dry rendition, with a vivid violet color and a pronounced aromatic profile. It shows a multi-layered bouquet dominated by notes of small red fruit, bay leaf, vanilla, and wild Greek herbs. It’s a fresh wine, yet its brief time in clay amphorae and the oxidative aging that took place there have given it well-worked tannins, while a light stint in oak barrels lent it a balanced structure.
It pairs especially well with grilled meats and excellently with feathered game. It’s also ideal with moderately strong cheeses, pasta in red or spicy sauces, and dishes where eggplant takes center stage. It also makes a fine match for cured meat and cheese platters.
